Crowley was named as the National Security Council’s deputy national security adviser by the Donald Trump administration in December 2016.
After learning that she had stolen material from both her 2000 Ph.D. dissertation and her 2012 book What the (Bleep) Just Happened?, she withdrew a month later.
Crowley’s appointment as the Treasury Department’s speaker was announced by Trump on July 16, 2019. She was sworn in on July 24, 2019, for the position.
Crowley was raised in Warren Township, New Jersey, after being born at Fort Huachuca, an Army base outside of Sierra Vista, Arizona. Watchung Hills Regional High School awarded Crowley her diploma in 1986.
She graduated with a Ph.D. in international relations from Columbia University and a BA in political science from Colgate University (2000). The dissertation purportedly contained some copied passages.
