The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) debunks rumors that Ghana card is confirmed for use as an electronic passport (e-passport).
Yesterday 11th February 2022, rumors spread over social media indication that, the Ghana Card is confirmed by ICAO and can serve as an e-passport for card holders in some selected countries across the world.
This seemed incredible but unbelievable. Many Ghanaians quizzed the use of electronic passports in a developing country like Ghana. According to them, Ghana seemed to be the first country to introduce electronic passport ahead of “advanced countries”.
In a statement presented to Ghanaweb, ICAO reveals that, the Organization roles does not include certifying ID cards that can replace passport for travelling overseas.
The hilarious news was popularized after photos circulating on social media captures Ghanaian leaders and the ICAO at an event in Montreal, Canada where Ghana signed its Public Key Directory (PKD).
The Organization debunks all the rumors stating that, it is null and invalid report as circulated by the media.
